Key Off-Peak Charging Programs

  • Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L):

    • Earn a $0.02 per kWh bill credit for charging your EV during off-peak hours.

    • Off-peak hours: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly and all weekend from 11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

    • Eligibility requires installation of a program-qualified Level 2 EV charger.

  • Atlantic City Electric (ACE):

    • Offers a similar $0.02 per kWh credit for net off-peak charging.

    • Off-peak hours: 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., Monday–Friday.

  • PSEG (Public Service Electric & Gas):

    • Off-peak hours: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily, plus weekends and holidays.

    • Credits are rebates, generally applied on the following month—rates after recent increases are approximately $0.11–0.12 per kWh including both supply and delivery credits for eligible EVs and chargers.

Program Details & Requirements

  • Enrollment is required; you must have a charger or EV that provides qualifying charging data to the utility.

  • Credits are applied as rebates and not as reduced per-kWh rates. The utility tracks eligible off-peak charging and issues credits accordingly.

  • Only certain EVs and smart chargers qualify; users may need to install approved chargers or provide detailed charging data.

Incentives

  • State incentives: Up to $250 for eligible EV charger purchases.

  • Federal EV tax credit: Up to $7,500, expiring September 30, 2025.

  • Up to $4,000 for new EV purchases or leases for income-qualifying residents through the Charge Up New Jersey program.

Electricity Rates

  • New Jersey’s electricity rates increased 17–20% in June 2025. Average bills now range from $134–$190 per month for 650 kWh usage, depending on utility.
