Update: PSE&G Off-Peak Credit Is Ending (and What Comes Next)

If you charge your EV at home in New Jersey, 2026 brings a big change—especially for PSE&G customers who have been using the Off-Peak Charging Credit to lower their monthly bill.

Below is the clearest, most up-to-date summary we have right now, plus what to do next so you don’t miss savings.

PSE&G is phasing out the Off-Peak Charging Credit

PSE&G has posted an official program update confirming two key changes:

  • No new applicants: As of January 13, 2026, PSE&G is no longer accepting new applicants into the off-peak credit program.

  • Off-peak credit ends for everyone: On or about June 1, 2026, the off-peak charging credit incentive will be discontinued for all customers.

What you should do now (PSE&G customers)

  1. If you were already enrolled: keep charging smart and watch for updates—your current credit will end around June 1, 2026.

  2. Watch for TOU details: PSE&G specifically says TOU details will come via email.

  3. Make sure your charger is “smart”: TOU programs typically reward (or penalize) behavior based on timing—having a charger that can reliably schedule charging matters.

Possible outcome: NJ PSE&G TOU could look like PSEG-LI (3-tier pricing)

PSE&G NJ hasn’t published full TOU details yet, but a realistic outcome is something similar to PSEG-Long Island’s Time-of-Use structure, which uses Peak / Off-Peak / Super Off-Peak pricing:

  • Peak Hours (3–7 p.m., Mon–Fri): highest rates

  • Off-Peak: 7 p.m.–3 p.m. weekdays + weekends & federal holidays

  • Super Off-Peak (10 p.m.–6 a.m., daily): roughly ~40% below the flat rate (example from PSEG-LI)

What this would mean for EV owners

If NJ adopts a similar structure, your “savings” may shift from monthly bill credits to behavior-based savings, where the biggest wins come from scheduling charging:

  • Set EV charging for Super Off-Peak (10 p.m.–6 a.m.)

  • Avoid charging during 3–7 p.m. weekdays unless you absolutely need to

  • Run high-usage appliances (dryer, dishwasher) during Off-Peak when possible

This is an example structure (PSEG-LI) and not guaranteed for NJ PSE&G. But it’s a good preview of the type of system utilities are moving toward.

JCP&L customers: Off-Peak rewards are still available (plus TOU credit layer)

JCP&L’s EV Driven / Off-Peak Rewards program continues to advertise a $0.02/kWh bill credit for charging during off-peak hours, with typical off-peak windows like 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekends (per program pages).

They also note a TOU-related structure where customers may be enrolled across credits depending on the program design and eligibility.

(As always, eligibility depends on your service classification and having a qualifying smart Level 2 charger.)

Atlantic City Electric (ACE): similar off-peak credit model

ACE’s off-peak program details commonly reference:

  • Off-peak hours: weekends and 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. (Mon–Fri)

  • Credit: $0.02 per kWh for net off-peak charging

Stay updated: things are moving fast in 2026

Utility incentive structures are changing—especially as New Jersey moves toward more TOU-style pricing.

Volt4Me will keep tracking these changes and publish updates as PSE&G releases TOU pricing details and enrollment rules.
